If you or someone you love is struggling with drug addiction, you’re not alone. At Affiliated Family Counselors in Wichita, KS, we understand how overwhelming addiction can feel. It can affect your relationships, your job, and your sense of self. But there is hope. With the right addiction therapy, healing is possible. Let’s explore more about how therapy can make a difference in the recovery journey.

What Is Drug Addiction Therapy?

Drug addiction therapy is a structured form of treatment aimed at helping individuals overcome their dependency on drugs. It involves various therapeutic techniques designed to address the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of addiction.

Why Addiction Therapy Matters

Drug addiction is more than just a habit, it’s a complex condition that often stems from deeper emotional pain or trauma. That’s why addiction therapy isn’t just about stopping the behavior. It’s about understanding why the behavior started and finding healthier ways to cope.

At Affiliated Family Counselors, our approach is holistic, ensuring that every client receives the care and attention they require for successful recovery.

Types of Addiction Therapy That Support Recovery

Every person’s journey is different, so we offer a range of therapy options to match your individual needs.

One-on-One Counseling

Private, confidential sessions with a licensed therapist allow you to:

  • Talk openly about your addiction.
  • Explore underlying causes.
  • Learn new coping strategies.
  • Set achievable recovery goals.

Group Therapy

Hearing from others who are facing similar challenges can be incredibly powerful. Group sessions help you:

  • Feel less alone.
  • Build a support network.
  • Learn from others’ experiences.
  • Practice healthy communication.

Family Therapy

Addiction affects more than just the individual. Family therapy can:

  • Repair damaged relationships.
  • Improve communication.
  • Teach loved ones how to support recovery.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

For some, medication can help reduce cravings and support long-term recovery. When appropriate, we offer MAT under professional supervision as part of a larger treatment plan.

Why Tailored Treatment Plans Make a Difference

There’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution for addiction. What works for one person may not work for another. That’s why we create custom treatment plans based on each client’s unique situation. Our approach considers:

  • The type and length of addiction.
  • Co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Past trauma.
  • Personal strengths and goals.

With this personalized care, you get the support you need—not just to recover, but to rebuild your life with confidence.

Whether you find yourself nearing finals (as a student or a teacher), or perhaps you simply have a loved one in your life that is dealing with the unique challenges that come with education, most people are, in some way, shape, or form, confronted with the the fact that college can indeed be a stressful (albeit exciting and rewarding) time. However, studies show that although we are often aware of the difficulties associated with pursuing higher education, many people do not understand the depth to which mental health and function can be affected for so many students during this season of life. In fact, the Journal of Mental Health & Clinical Psychology found that “..in studies on mental health and stigma amongst college students, only about one-third of students with psychological disorders receive mental health treatment.” ¹ One-third! One might think that something so common in our society would be an ongoing, normalized, and open conversation, but unfortunately, stigmas surrounding mental health are still very real. By educating ourselves on mental illnesses, we can correct errors in our worldview surrounding mental health, both towards ourselves and towards others. As we align our points of view with the facts, we are much more prepared to fight the stigmas that keep students (and others!) feeling isolated in their fight with mental health.

Let’s be honest. If you’ve been diagnosed with depression, finding a safe and effective treatment that works for you can be daunting, and, in some cases, even downright discouraging. Have you tried and failed to find an antidepressant that’s the perfect fit for managing your symptoms? If so, it might be time to look at the possibility of TMS treatments. See what the Mayo Clinic has to say about this FDA approved, non-drug option for treatment resistant depression by clicking the link below.

In case you have not heard the buzz going around about NeuroStar TMS Treatments, TMS stands for Transcranial magnetic stimulation, which uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what’s used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. It is a non-invasive treatment that is done while the patient is awake and alert. NeuroStar TMS Therapy stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression.
